Pestalotiopsis microspora

A plastic-eating fungus has been discovered in the Amazon rainforest. Known as Pestalotiopsis microspora, the fungus can survive without oxygen and uses plastic as its primary food source , this could be a moment in history for the recycling industry

It was first identified by Yale University researchers in Ecuador in 2011 and is capable of breaking down polyurethane completely, unlike most methods that leave behind microplastics.
